PrivScrub (privscrub.com) is a free toolkit to redact and scrub sensitive information out of documents and images — entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device.
Redaction that actually removes the data
When you redact a region, PrivScrub rasterizes it so the underlying text is physically deleted — not just hidden under a black box that can be copied back out. Document metadata (author, creator app, timestamps) is stripped too, and PII detection for things like card and ID numbers runs locally using checksum math. There is no server that receives your files, so nothing is uploaded.
The fake-redaction detector
Our standout tool flags “fake” redactions — black boxes drawn over text that is still selectable and recoverable underneath. Run any redacted file through it before you share, so a hidden layer never leaks. See exactly how this works on our methodology page.
